Project Background
The Port of New Orleans initiated a comprehensive underwater and above-water inspection and rehabilitation program for the Nashville Avenue Terminal container wharf to assess existing structural conditions and support long-term operational reliability. The terminal includes approximately 1,350 linear feet of container wharf supported by a large population of steel and concrete piles and an associated steel sheetpile containment wall.
Waterfront Inspection and Condition Assessment
From 2018 to 2022, Anthony Mets, P.E. served as a Discipline Lead and Lead Design Engineer for underwater and above-water inspections and repair design for the Nashville Avenue Terminal at the Port of New Orleans.
Mr. Mets led underwater and topside inspection teams in performing comprehensive condition assessments of approximately 1,350 linear feet of existing container wharf, including inspection of approximately 5,100 steel and concrete piles and 1,350 linear feet of Skyline BZ 16.4 and Frodingham 3NA steel sheetpile containment wall. Inspections included Level I, Level II, and Level III nondestructive evaluations performed in accordance with ASCE Standard Practice Manual 130 – Waterfront Facilities Inspection and Assessment (2015 Edition).
Structural Evaluation and Repair Design
Topside mooring system inspections were performed in support of a planned mooring system upgrade, including preparation for required modeling and analysis tasks. Based on inspection findings, Mr. Mets led the development of repair and rehabilitation concepts and prepared plans, specifications, and estimates (PS&E) for repair of concrete and steel piles and rehabilitation of the steel sheetpile wall.
Construction Support Services
Mr. Mets provided construction support services during implementation of the repair program, including site walks, field observations, and responses to contractor requests for information (RFIs).
